Application Performance Management

Application Performance Management

What is Application Performance Management (APM)?

Traditionally, Application Performance Management (APM) usually depends on monitoring and managing the availability and performance of enterprise applications. In addition, APM comprise of processes and the use of IT based tools to detect, diagnose a remedy and report application performance based on the business users’ expectation. For many organizations, from the stand point of the enterprise, there were domain experts who had the skills and knowledge of how these applications performed and interacted with the business. However, the adoption of new technologies and the need to quickly address business requirements have introduced a more complex IT system and application landscape.

Why the need for more of a Knowledge Driven Approach to Application Performance Management?

Compiling information from applications such as SAP and composite based applications have become a more time-consuming process involving multiple components each capable of generating dozens of alerts in response to a single system fault. Once the information is compiled, multiple application domain experts must then sort through it, picking out the relevant pieces to include in their analysis and then they must decide on an appropriate corrective course of action.

This process becomes exponentially complex for many IT system landscapes, for now even SAP driven enterprises are facing multiple SAP systems and dependencies on other enterprise systems and technologies like SOA. This new paradigm shift now complicates the application problem resolution; typically involving many application experts dialing into a bridge call, each with their own diagnostic data, trying to isolate the root cause and to develop an appropriate remedy. Clearly this method of isolating, diagnosing, and resolving an incident takes a lot of time (MTTR) and consumes a lot of resources.

These scenarios occur dozens of times daily in enterprise datacenters, underscoring the need for change. Tidal's APM solutions can dramatically increase IT operational efficiency. Tidal's application performance management solutions intelligently evaluate large amounts of system performance information and recommend or automatically deliver a course of action through a knowledge driven approach.
